  • Customer feedback has been very positive with passengers pleased with the reliability and convenience of sharp Airlines and Essendon Airport
  • In response to community demand, EastWest and Sharp will significantly expand the flight schedule, introducing an additional four flights per week

EastWest Airlines and operating partner Sharp Airlines are pleased to observe strong patronage on the new Melbourne (Essendon) to Griffith airline service from the travelling public since the inception of the route on 15th July 2019.

In this short period of time, the Griffith and Riverina communities have demonstrated their great support for the new air service which provides a valuable link between the region and Melbourne. EastWest Marketing Specialist, Vianney Rouille, noted "Passenger numbers have grown significantly since commencing the services in July. Eight hundred passengers have already used the service."

"Our passengers have been delighted by the reliability and convenience of the Melbourne to Griffith service, which bodes well for its future growth, he added. "Our consistent, timely performance over the past month is a testament to the operational strength of Sharp Airlines and the clear advantages of flying from Melbourne's congestion-free Essendon Fields Airport."

As a result of the strong patronage and highly positive feedback on the Melbourne to Griffith route, EastWest and Sharp will expand the schedule, introducing four additional flights per week. These new return services - one on Thursday afternoons, the other on Friday mornings, will commence from Sunday 22nd September 2019. Expanding the route schedule from 12 to 16 flights per week (including twice-daily service on Thursdays and Fridays) will provide customers with significantly greater flexibility when travelling between Melbourne and Griffith.

Commenting on the introduction of these additional flights, Mr Malcolm Sharp, Managing Director of Sharp Airlines said, "the expanded service now enables customers to undertake day return trips between Melbourne and Griffith."

Mr Sharp thanked the people and businesses of the Riverina for their continued support of the Melbourne to Griffith air service. Mr Sharp noted, "in response to the strong support of the community for the air service, Sharp will increase capacity by a total of 76 seats per week, demonstrating our clear and growing commitment to linking Griffith and the Riverina to Melbourne."

Griffith Mayor, Cr John Dal Broi said "It's fantastic to see that EastWest and Sharp have already expanded the number of Griffith / Melbourne flights, just two months after commencing services. The service has been truly embraced by the community and it is heartening to see passenger number so high for both incoming and outgoing flights. The expanded flight schedule demonstrates that EastWest and Sharp are listening to feedback. The additional flights and adjusting flight times are all further improvements the community will enjoy."

Flying time between the two cities is just under an hour and all flights are flown by high-speed Turbine Metroliner aircraft.
